First Impression
Upon logging onto WagerWeb, I was struck by how professional-looking and well laid out the site is. It's almost as if they're saying "we know you take your online gaming seriously and so do we." The graphics are top-notch and everything you need to know is one simple click away. The sidebar on the left that lists the site's services is as comprehensive as any this reviewer has ever seen on an online gambling site. And the three-step process by which you get going - join, deposit, wager - is every bit as easy as the process found on other online gambling sites that don't offer one-tenth of WagerWeb's services.
The Casino
WagerWeb offers several varieties of casino games: blackjack, slots, baccarat, craps, keno and video poker, just to name a few, and they offer helpful tips and hints for the beginner (or relatively inexperienced online gambler). Want to give the site's games a quick spin, as it were, without actually wagering your hard-earned cash? Not a problem; WagerWeb offers a "Play For Fun" option that allows you to experience all the excitement of online gambling for free.
A side note: WagerWeb is in the process of building a live, online poker room. Unlike most other websites that buy existing online gambling programs, WagerWeb designs its own; the manager assures me that the poker room will be ready to launch around December of 2004.
Sportsbook and Racing Book
WagerWeb also features one of the most comprehensive online racebooks anywhere around. And, unlike most other online gambling sites, WagerWeb posts the racebook manager's name and contact information on the racing page, right next to the horse information. And the sportsbook offers not only some of the most generous parlays and teasers available online, but also several proposition bets backed by well-written press releases that give the would-be wagerer different points of view on the topic, whether it be Scott Peterson or Pedro Martinez.
Promotions and Contests
WagerWeb offers some of the most creative contests that this reviewer has ever seen online. First off, there's the eye-pleasing WagerWeb "Babe of the Week" contest in which a different babe receives these honors during every week of the NFL season. The contest offers prizes for both online gamblers as well as the girl lucky enough to be voted "Miss WagerWeb," as the Top 4 players who score the highest on their Bracket win the Cash Prizes. The Model whose NFL team wins the Super Bowl becomes Miss WagerWeb 2004; she will then enjoy an all-expense-paid trip to an exclusive Costa Rican vacation spot for a special photo shoot. Miss WagerWeb will also adorn all advertising material for WagerWeb over the course of the following year.
WagerWeb also features numerous other contests like a handicapper's contest, in which the week's top racing handicapper wins a $500 wagering account. Then there's the Pick 5 contests in Sports, Horses and Soccer, Pick 15's in Golf and NASCAR, and a weekly Pick 20. Add to all this a 20% new account bonus, a 20% reload bonus and a 10% referral bonus and you have a long line of satisfied customers.
Bottom Line
I spent a good deal of time on the phone with Dan Richards, who is the manager of WagerWeb, who gave me some insight as to the reasons behind the continued success of the site. Simply put, WagerWeb is always asking its customers what they want. Babes? Bada bing; done deal. More visibility for the talented amateur handicapper? Here's a contest; rock on! Which just proves that whatever your online gambling needs are, these guys are more than ready to meet them.
